Uber, DiDi, inDrive & Tulum Taxi Apps: Who Actually Shows Up?

Getting around Tulum used to be simple. Wave down a taxi, ask the fare, raise an eyebrow, and decide whether walking might be good for your health.
Now we've got apps! Several of them, actually.
But before you start downloading everything with a little car on the icon, let's sort out which apps offer taxis, which allow private cars, and how to find a ride without all the drama.

Just because an app is available in Mexico doesn't mean every ride type is available in Tulum—or that a driver will actually show up!

Applies to: Everyone

Why It Matters

Not all ride apps work the same way. Some book licensed taxis, others connect you with private-car drivers, and one even lets you negotiate your fare.
Knowing the difference helps you compare your options before you're standing on a street corner wondering whether you should have brought walking shoes.

🚕 Uber — Same App, Different Ride

Uber arrived in Tulum in October 2026, but don't expect the usual UberX experience.

For now, Uber connects passengers with licensed local taxis, not private UberX drivers.

So yes, it's still a Tulum taxi. It's just wearing a digital outfit now.

🚗 DiDi — A Little More Variety

DiDi offers two types of car service in participating Mexican cities:

  • DiDi Express: Private cars with registered drivers.

  • DiDi Taxi: Traditional licensed taxis.

DiDi rides have been reported in Tulum, but we haven't confirmed which categories are currently available here.

Check your app to see what's actually being offered.

💰 inDrive — Let's Make a Deal!

Don't like the suggested fare? With inDrive, you can propose your own price.

Drivers can accept, decline or counteroffer.

Think of it as friendly negotiation, minus standing beside a hot road trying to explain why 300 pesos seems a little ambitious.

inDrive isn't restricted to traditional taxis. Private-car drivers can participate, although the exact vehicle mix and driver authorization in Tulum haven't been independently verified.

🚖 Eiby Taxi — Traditional Taxis Go Digital

Eiby connects passengers with taxi services through an app, providing driver and fare information.

It's been mentioned in local transportation guides, but current driver coverage in Tulum hasn't been independently confirmed.

Another option to investigate when you're looking for a ride.

🌴 Bej Taxi — The New Kid in Town

Bej is a Tulum-based platform that says it works with the local Tiburones del Caribe taxi union.

And it has a few interesting ideas:

  • Fixed taxi fares based on travel zones.

  • Cash or card payment options.

  • Live driver tracking.

  • Taxi Rosa: Women drivers for women passengers.

  • Combi information: Routes, estimated arrivals and vehicle occupancy.

That combi feature could be particularly handy. Anyone who's waited beside the road wondering whether the next combi is coming today or next Tuesday will understand why.

What's the catch?

These are advertised features. We haven't independently confirmed which are fully operational, current driver coverage or whether Bej's fares follow authorized rates.

Bej has an iPhone app, but we haven't verified an official Android passenger app.

What About the Other Apps?

You might hear about Xook, iTaxi, OLA Taxi or Muévete.

They've appeared in Quintana Roo transportation announcements or app listings, but active Tulum passenger bookings haven't been confirmed for each.

We'll add more information when there's something useful to report. A fancy announcement doesn't get anyone home!

How to Find a Ride Without the Drama

  1. Compare: Check two or three apps using the same pickup and destination.

  2. Check: Look at the fare, available vehicle, waiting time and payment options.

  3. Book: Choose a ride and verify your driver's details and license plate before getting in.

And please don't request three cars to see who arrives first. This isn't Formula 1.

Taking a street taxi instead? Agree on the total fare in pesos before getting in.

What About Tulum Airport?

Ah, the airport. Where transportation comes with its own special set of rules.

Just because an app works around town doesn't mean its drivers are authorized to pick up passengers at Tulum International Airport.

For arrivals, check authorized airport taxis, prearranged transfers or ADO bus services.

Don't assume an app accepting your pickup request means an authorized airport ride is available.

Which App Actually Shows Up?

There's no guaranteed winner. What works depends on your location, the time of day, the drivers available and the fare you're willing to pay.

Our suggestion? Keep a couple of apps handy and compare before booking.

Because getting home shouldn't require a second mortgage, three phone calls and a minor miracle.

Help Us Keep Tulum Sorted!

Have you tried Uber, DiDi, inDrive, Eiby or Bej in Tulum?

Which app did you use? Where were you going? What did you pay? And most importantly, did the driver actually arrive?

Share your experience with Tulum Sorted. The more we learn from local passengers, the more useful this guide becomes for everyone.

Good to Know

Before getting in, check the driver's identity and vehicle plate. Share your trip when possible, and never accept unexpected off-app charges. A fixed fare displayed by an app doesn't automatically mean it's an officially approved taxi tariff. Ride types, prices and availability can change. Check the app for current options.
