Overview
Tulum Sorted is a community-maintained local reference for Tulum and the wider Quintana Roo region. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.
Information We Collect
- Account information: If you create an account, we collect your email address. Your password is hashed and managed securely by our platform provider. Your account may include a display name and a role (admin or user).
- Saved content: When you save a guide or listing, the bookmark is stored in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.
- Submissions: When you submit a new listing, review, correction, update, removal request, or report, we collect the information you provide — including names, contact details, descriptions, and any supporting images. Submissions are stored in a moderation queue and reviewed by an administrator before publication.
- Contact messages: When you use the contact form, we collect your message and your optional email address so we can respond if needed.
- Newsletter signup: When you subscribe to Tulum Sorted updates, we collect your email address. We use it only to send you updates when new or updated articles are published. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any update email or on our unsubscribe page. Your email address is stored in our platform's database and emails are sent through our platform's email service.
- Analytics: We collect anonymous usage data — page views, search queries, article views, category clicks, and session starts — to understand how the site is used and improve it. A visitor identifier and session identifier are stored in your browser's local storage to help us distinguish new and returning visitors. Administrator activity is excluded from analytics. Clearing your local storage removes these identifiers from your device but does not by itself stop future anonymous analytics collection; you can block analytics scripts using your browser's content-blocker or do-not-track settings if you prefer not to be counted.
- Cookies: We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
How We Use Your Information
- To review and publish community-submitted listings, corrections, and reports.
- To respond to contact messages and correction requests.
- To send Tulum Sorted update emails to subscribers who have opted in.
- To understand how visitors use the site and improve content and usability.
- To maintain the accuracy and freshness of listings through community confirmations and reports.
Third-Party Services
Our app is hosted on the Base44 platform, which manages authentication, data storage, and email delivery for the newsletter and account notifications. Administrators may connect Facebook Pages and Google Sheets accounts for social sharing and data import. These connections are used only by administrators and do not give third parties access to your personal data.
The "Help Buy the Gas" support link in our footer opens a payment page on Clip's website. Any payment is processed on Clip's site under Clip's own privacy and transaction terms. Tulum Sorted does not directly process, receive, or store your card or payment details.
Data Storage
Account information, submissions, contact messages, and analytics data are stored in our platform's secure database. Saved bookmarks are stored locally in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your personal data or submissions.
- Unsubscribe from Tulum Sorted update emails at any time using the link in any update email or on our unsubscribe page.
- Block anonymous analytics collection using your browser's content-blocker or do-not-track settings.
