How to pay your CFE electricity bill

UtilitiesLast verified by Tulum Sorted: Sep 9, 2026

Pay through the official MiCFE website in a browser, the CFE Contigo app, a Mexican banking app, a CFEmático machine, or an authorized payment location. If you are in the United States or Canada, you can use the MiCFE website without downloading the app or use an international bill-payment service such as Xoom. If paying with an international card, American Express can be used directly with CFE online or at the CFE office. Other international cards should be paid through a third-party service such as Xoom or Mercado Pago. Mexican-issued bank cards can be used through supported CFE and Mexican banking payment channels.

Applies to: Anyone responsible for paying a residential or business CFE electricity account in Tulum or elsewhere in Mexico. The account does not have to be in your name if you have the service number or bill

What You Need

Your 12-digit CFE service number or a recent bill. For online payment you need internet access and an accepted payment method. For direct CFE payment with an international card, use American Express. Other international cards are not accepted directly by CFE; use a third-party payment service such as Xoom or Mercado Pago instead. For in-person payment bring the bill or barcode plus cash or an accepted card.

Common Problems

The CFE Contigo app is generally limited to Mexican-region app stores. However, people in the United States or Canada can still access MiCFE through a web browser without downloading the app.

American Express can be used for direct CFE payments with an international card. If you have another international card, use a third-party payment service such as Xoom or Mercado Pago.

Always verify the service number and property address before paying.

Payments made through banks, Xoom, or other services may take longer to appear. Keep the receipt until the payment is reflected on the CFE account.

If electricity has already been disconnected, if your Spanish is good call CFE at 071 after paying and have the service number and payment confirmation ready. They will make a reconnect ticket and you'll need to pay a fee.

If your Spanish is like mine, so so, you or a local will need to go into the office to do the reconnect ticket and fee.

If you have an older meter someone will have to go to the meter. Newer ones they can do electronically.

Good to Know

Save the receipt or screenshot containing the confirmation number after paying, and check that the payment or credit appears on the correct CFE account. To add money toward future bills, first pay the current balance and wait for the account to show a zero balance, then make the additional payment after there is no outstanding balance.
